After the end of the second world war the world was in a destructive state. But after the horrific acts committed during WW2, the world needed peace and healing. Although the term “United Nations” was referenced in 1942 by President Rosevelt, it was officially created in October of 1945 at the end of the second world war. By 1946 it already had 51 nations represented in its general assembly.

It took two years for the UN to form the Declaration of Human Rights and it was officially adopted by the general assembly in 1948. The Declartion of Human Rights has thirty articles that are aimed at providing every human on this earth with basic human rights. Today the United Nations consists of 193 soveriegn, all of which follow the Declaration of Human Rights.

The United Nations and its various declarations really where a result of the second world war, with an estimated eighty million dead during the span of the war. World War 2 officially is the war with the most deaths in all of human history. This means that when looking at the United Nations and its declarations, it is important to remember how the world got to that point. The cost of the United Nations was the death and sacrifices of millions during the war, the United Nations itself is a declaration of the world wanting to do better.
